Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete has many characters and over 400 animals to meet and befriend. Animals are unlocked as players level up, but there are also many animals that are exclusive rewards earned for completing maps found as souvenirs after sending out Gulliver’s ship. Each animal has their own theme, personality, and fun catchphrase.

Players can earn points to level up their friendships with their favorite animals through many different means. Leveling up friendships awards the player with useful items, and when certain milestones are met, different activities to do with them are unlocked, such as dressing them up or inviting them to stay in the campsite or cabin. So what should players do in order to access this content locked behind certain levels?

Meeting an Animal For The First Time

+1 Friendship Points

When talking to an animal for the first time after meeting them on the campgrounds, players will gain one friendship point with the animal in question. This is enough for the players to reach level one, but is less than the amount of points awarded when talking to them in other circumstances. It’s pretty self-explanatory why this is the last place on the list – it’s not exactly a “method” and can only be done once per animal for extremely minimal reward.

Request Tickets/Calling Cards

+1-3 Friendship Points

Two types of cards can be used on animals: Calling Cards and Request Tickets. Calling Cards grant one friendship point and are used to call an animal to a particular location – they can be used to call animals that the player has not yet met, and there is unique dialogue for meeting an animal for the first time in this circumstance. Using a calling card doesn’t cancel out the points a player would usually gain from meeting them for the first time, so players will get two points if they trigger this cutscene.

As the name suggests, request cards allow animals to make extra requests, which is how players build their friendships. Animals can have a maximum of 3 Request Tickets used on them daily. Calling and Request cards are some of the rarer items in Pocket Camp, so similarly to meeting an animal, using them is not a reliable way of leveling up animal friendships. They can be rewarded for completing special requests for animals and also can be obtained as event rewards in AC: Pocket Camp Complete. They are very useful items, just not for this particular purpose.

Dressing Animals Up

+2 Friendship Points

Occasionally, an animal can request that the player pick out a new outfit for it. However, after reaching a certain level, which varies among different animals, players can choose to dress them up without being asked to do so first. Dressing up an animal that hasn’t already been dressed recently will reward the player with two friendship points.

Giving the animal a brand new outfit is not necessary to get the friendship points as long as they open and close the clothing menu, and there are unique dialogue reactions if the player chooses not to change anything about their outfit. Animals will also comment if they end up wearing the same outfit as the player. With custom designs being able to be imported and players having access to the complete item catalog, there are endless possibilities for outfits.

Speaking With Animals

+2-6 Friendship Points

Talking to an animal using the “tell me a story” or “you can always talk to me” dialogue options in a recreational spot grants experience and two friendship points once per 3-hour cycle. Meanwhile, players will gain three to six friendship points upon speaking with an animal in their campsite. If the conversation takes place in the player’s camp or cabin, then there is a chance that the animal will give the player a gift of bells or crafting materials. Animals in both locations can also ask the player for help in picking out a gift for another animal when spoken to.

Lost Items

+5 Friendship Points

A rarer animal scenario that can occur in the campsite is an animal asking for help locating a lost item, which grants five friendship points upon completion. The item can be a bottle, book, or pouch and can be found in any location besides the campsite or cabin. Players can usually obtain lost items by picking them off the ground, but they can also be shaken out of trees and fished up. It’s not actually required to talk to an animal to trigger the presence of a lost item – players may find one before they’ve been asked to locate it.

Special Requests

+10 Friendship Points

Once an animal reaches the friendship level of 10 or 15, then they will have a unique special request to ask the player to craft a specific item. Completing this request awards one each of the aforementioned Request Tickets and Calling cards, 1,000 bells, and 10 friendship points. Though this seems like it should be higher than regular requests by the principal, it can only be done once per animal, and players can earn 10 friendship points through other types of requests much more easily.

Amenities

When a player finishes building an amenity, five animals from the player’s campsite will be chosen randomly to appear in the unveiling cutscene and receive friendship points. If the player has less than five animals present in their camp, then animals will be selected from outside it. If the animals present share the same theme as the amenity – for example, Apollo shares the same theme as the Cool Tent – then they will receive 10 friendship points. Otherwise, they will receive five friendship points.

Having An Animal As Your Camp Caretaker

+5 Friendship Points

One of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete’s defining features is how every player can choose a camp caretaker to manage their campsite. However, this isn’t new material and was previously available to players who subscribed to the Happy Helper Plan, which Nintendo Mobile explains in Pocket Camp: Complete’s launch announcement. Players should appoint their favorite animals into this role, as the camp caretaker can follow them around in areas outside the campsite.

A Camp Caretaker will complete requests for animals outside the campsite that the player didn’t complete in time and will bring the rewards back to them. Players will not receive friendship points for tasks they did not complete themselves – they will, however, gain friendship points with their camp caretaker and will receive five friendship points per “report.” This is one of the best ways of building friendship with a particular animal since it is something that’s done passively. Caretakers will also gift items from fishing and bug catching, which can be used to fulfill other requests.

Requests

Many players will consider fulfilling animal requests as the main gameplay mechanic of Pocket Camp: Complete. There are several different types of requests that yield various friendship points. Strangely, there is one type of request that won’t grant the player any friendship points – when an animal is invited to the campsite, animals will have some item requirements that the player must meet first. However, once all these items have been collected and the animal arrives, their friendship level will not be shown to increase.

Players will also receive more friendship points when gifting rarer items to animals.

Snacks

By far, snacks are the quickest way to raise friendship levels in Pocket Camp: Complete. Though players may have found them harder to come by in the previous game, Nintendo is a lot kinder with the prices of leaf token services compared to the previous game’s leaf tickets. Through event rewards or sending out Gulliver’s ship, snacks are easier to obtain than ever in the game, and players using this feature to get other items such as maps and complete tickets may find themselves with a surplus.
